I'm sorry to express this, but I think that it would be better to research the art and science of fidelity. For some, the prurient interest that is spawned when you couch the issue in terms of "cheating" begs the question, why are so many people compelled to do things that they know will hurt their significant other?
I have remained faithful, even through difficult relationships, because I felt a deep and abiding love for my wife, lover or friend that had a sanctity beyond moral question. Oddly enough, this had no bearing on the faithfulness of my partners, some of whom were quite blatant about their desire to sleep around even as we were paired. Luckily, I had the self image required to walk away from unfaithful partners and this should be a major focus of any fidelity research.
If the science of cheating ever blossoms into a parallel study of the faithful, please let me know as I will gladly be data.
